Help Projects Participating in a Project

Participating in a Project

Participating in a project is a way to share your information in a private and controlled way, knowing exactly what you are sharing, and with whom. Giving the ability to share anonymized data as well as full match data, depending on the research topic at hand, is up to the members, as we firmly believe that your data is your data.

The primary tasks involved in finding and participating in a project are:

Finding and Joining Projects

There are two ways to find a project:

If you find a project that is intersting to you, joining is relatively easy.

First, read the full description of the Project, and make sure it's something you'd like to participate in. Then, read the instructions provided by the admin, if any, on what information they will request before joining.

At the bottom of the page, above the Submit button, it will be noted if the Project required approval before joining. If it does not, you will immediately become a member, and can start participating. If it does require approval, the Creator and Admins will be notified of your pending request, and either approve or reject your application.

Viewing Research Topics

When viewing a research topic for a Project, you can see the name, description, and any specific instructions for choosing a match to submit. Carefully review this data, as you should only submit information that is pertinent to the topic at hand.

Submitting Data - Match-Level Data

If the project admin has selected that they wish to receive individual match data, you will need to search for specific matches to submit.

When searching for a match to submit, review the instructions for the research topic carefully. You can search for a pertinent match by the follwing criteria:

Once you have selected a match to submit, there are a few more data points that are required.

You will be informed on any required data, so you know exactly what you are submitting. If there are any requested data points that are not required, the option to include them or not will be available.

Admins may also have several additional questions. They may be broken into two sections, a set of questions about either the Kit/Person you manage, or about the match itself. The only difference between these is that if it is a question about the Kit/Person you manage, you will only have to fill it out once. Future submissions will show the original submitted responses, and any updates will apply to all.

Finally, there is the option to share your data with Admins-only, or all Members. The choice is up to the member who is submitting the data - as sharing is always controlled by the owner of the data.

Submitting Data - Kit/Person-Level Data

If the project admin has selected that they wish to receive Kit/Person level data, you will simply need to select which Kit or Person to submit.

You will be informed on any required data, so you know exactly what you are submitting. If there are any requested data points that are not required, the option to include them or not will be available.

Admins may also have several additional questions. Since you are submitting entire match results, you will only receive questions about the Kit or Person you are submitting.

Finally, there is the option to share your data with Admins-only, or all Members. The choice is up to the member who is submitting the data - as sharing is always controlled by the owner of the data.

Reviewing and Removing Submitted Data

Back on the research topic splash page, you can also view any submitted data. This will include all data submitted by you, as well as any data that has been submitted by other members that have chosen to share with all other members.

Some data may simply say Not Provided, in which case the data was chosen to not be shared. This will only happen in the case when a data point is requested, rather than required.

To the right of the requested data will be the responses to each of the questions asked, if they have been answered. If it says Submitter then it is a question about the TESTING person, and if it says Match it is a question about the MATCHED person.

Clicking the "Remove" link will prompt you to confirm that you really want to remove the submitted data, and upon confirmation will remove it. Unless you are a Creator or Admin, you can only remove your own data.

The interface for viewing Entire Kit/Person submissions will be live very soon. Submissions may still be taken in the meantime.
